WUFI (R) WORKSHOPS:
(What does WUFI stand for? Wärme Und Feuchte Instationär)
WUFI workshops - Computer modeling of hygrothermal (moisture and heat) transfer through walls and roofs and varying assemblies. These workshops, with instruction provided by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) of the United States and the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics in Germany, are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) /Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) and others. Each student brings his/her own laptop, receives software with a temporary license, and will run simulations. The computer modeling enables the user to diagnose or design wall or roof configurations within a user-specified geographic region for which NOAA has gathered weather data for decades. Even mold growth in the building can be predicted using this model.
WUFI Pro is the beginning 1D software that models individual walls and roofs, enabling the user to select the building location, the direction of the weather, etc. This version enables the user to copy material properties and modify the database. This class is the prerequisite for WUFI Plus, WUFI 2D, and the annual WUFI Users Advanced Workshop or Conference. Students receive an 8-week temporary license for WUFI Pro. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Introductory Workshops (In person, 2-day meeting): December 12-13, 2024: DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Un iversal Orlando 5780 Major Blvd. Orlando, Florida 32819 Get info and/or register here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/t4g4gpt/lp/cf691240-a892-4d83-b533-0fdcd3f6748c _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ WUFI ADVANCED WORKSHOPS: Prerequisite: Prior Introductory WUFI Workshop or equivalent experience using WUFI(R) software.
Advanced workshop, limited to 30 participants. For information and registration, follow this Event URL:
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________* CANCELLATIONS: You will be notified promptly of any cancellations or schedule changes. If a program is cancelled or postponed we will refund registration fees but cannot be held responsible for any other related costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines or travel agencies. Refunds of registration fees, when cancelled by the registrant, are 90% refundable if notice is given via e-mail prior to 30 days before the workshop. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
WUFI Plus is a whole building simulation model that solves for the heat and moisture balances in buildings. It solves all the wall, roof and basement (simplified for basements) components and the indoor conditions with different heat and air conditioning approaches. The advantage for all the existing WUFI users is that it employs the same structure we have used so far for the 1-D. Users can become whole building energy and moisture experts at the same time.
WUFI Plus is a holistic model that takes into account the main hygrothermal effects, like moisture sources and sinks inside a room, moisture input from the envelope due to capillary action, diffusion and vapour ab-/desorption as a response to the exterior and interior climate conditions, heat source and sinks inside the room, heat input from the envelope, the solar energy input through walls and windows and hygrothermal sources and sinks due to natural or mechanical ventilation will be presented. Beside the theoretical background, several practical applications will be shown. Students receive a 13-week temporary license.
2D simulations are required to evaluate the hygrothermal performance at thermal bridges, joints, foundations, corners, etc. The WUFI-2D Course includes hands-on project work and practical application cases as well as information on material anisotropy and differences with 1D simulations. WUFI 2D workshops are given by the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics in Germany. E-mail support@wufi.com with your inquiries.
WUFI Passive software: The WUFI Passive software is now being taught by the Passive House Institute US. It is a recent modeling tool using the WUFI® Plus building simulation tool; a tool that was designed to meet the needs of the North American Passive House community. This tool can be learned quickly and notifies the user in real-time of possible mistakes during data entry.
Weather Data - Besides the 150 or so cities in the WUFI database, there is additional data available from the National Climate Data Center (NCDC). The data is for about 250 U.S. cities and covers about 35 years. You can then use this data in the Weather File Analyzer (comes with your WUFI software) to compute the 90% hot and cold years and convert the files into WUFI-compatible files. They can then be used in WUFI. Here is the link: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/ncdc.html
